About Ferrell's Air Conditioning & Heating

It started with Kenneth Ferrell. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, learned heating and air after high school, and worked alongside his father Herb and the family's Carrier HVAC business — the trade that would become his life's work.

In 1976 Kenneth met Martha in Daytona Beach, and in 1980 the couple moved back to her home state of Kentucky, settling in Waddy and starting Ferrell's Air Conditioning & Heating right out of their own home. Kenneth ran the service calls; Martha answered the phones and kept everything on track. As daughters Magen, Kerri, and Lindsey arrived and the customer base grew, the business outgrew the house — so Kenneth hired his first crew and built it into the company Shelby County knows today.

In 2005 the family took a bold step, purchasing and renovating the Old Henry Clay School in Clay Village — a building where Martha had once gone to school and taught — as Ferrell's permanent home. Through it all, community came first: Kenneth has always found a way to take care of a neighbor in a bind, because that's how you treat a neighbor, not a number.

After 45 years, Kenneth has set down his tool bag — but his daughter Kerri Finke and her husband Matt have picked it up. As Kerri puts it, “it's never been a no, it's always we will find a way.” The second generation is carrying the same honest, old-school care into the next 45 years.
